Your file library holds every worksheet, permission slip, and photo you've uploaded, so you can attach it again without re-uploading. Teachers and admins each have their own library, and you manage it right where you attach files: click Attach files on an assignment, class announcement, email, or message.
The Attach files panel has two tabs: My files holds everything you've uploaded, and Shared with me shows files and folders your colleagues have shared. Use Search files to find a file in any folder.
Add files
- Open an assignment, class announcement, email, or message and click Attach files.
- On the My files tab, open the folder you want (or stay at the top level) and click Upload files.
- Choose up to 20 files. Each file is named after its original file name. Rename it afterward if students and parents need a clearer name.
- Click Add files. The new files are selected, ready to attach.
New uploads can be PDFs or images (JPG, PNG, GIF, BMP, SVG), up to 200 MB each. Video and audio files can't be uploaded — host those elsewhere and share a link instead. Files you uploaded before this limit remain in your library and work everywhere they always have.
Organize with folders
In Attach files, click New folder to create a folder inside the one you have open. You can nest folders as deeply as you like. To rename, share, move, or delete a folder, click the ⋮ menu on its row. Deleting a folder moves everything inside it up one level, and no files are deleted.
Folders are for browsing only — moving a file never breaks anything. A worksheet attached to an assignment stays attached, and download links keep working, no matter how you reorganize.
Share files and folders
Only you can see your files until you share them. Click the ⋮ menu on a file or folder, choose Share, and pick who can see it:
- Only me
- Admins only
- Admins & teachers
Sharing a folder applies that choice to everything inside it, including files you add later. Only the owner of a file or folder can change its sharing.
Attach files anywhere
Anywhere you attach files, Attach files opens this same library, with your own files plus anything shared with you. Check the files you want and click Attach files at the bottom of the panel:
- Classwork — attach materials to lessons and assignments. See Managing Classwork.
- Class announcements — include files with an announcement. See Class Announcements.
- Emails and templates — attach files to the emails you send. See Email Attachments.
- Messages — attach library files to your messages with families. See Messages.
Preview, rename, or delete a file
Click the ⋮ menu on any file to Preview file, Download, Rename, Move, Share, or Delete it. Renaming changes the name readers see. It never breaks existing attachments or links.
You can't delete a file while classwork, an email, or a message still uses it. Remove the attachment first. Files someone else uploaded can only be renamed, moved, or re-shared by their owner; admins can delete files that have been shared with admins.
