Announcements let you share class updates — reminders, schedule changes, celebrations — with parents and students. Once posted, they appear in the school portal: parents see them on the class's Announcements tab, and students see them on their portal home page and on each class. Families also get an email when an announcement is posted.
Note: Class announcements are included on every plan, in both the admin panel and the teacher panel. See Plans & Pricing.
Create an announcement
You can start from your announcements list or from a class — the form is the same.
From the announcements list:
- In the sidebar, click Communication (under Communicate), then the Announcements tab.
- Click New announcement.
Or from a class:
- Go to Classes and click the class.
- Click the Announcements tab.
- Click New announcement. The current class is pre-selected for you, and you come back to this tab when you're done.
Then fill in the form:
- Enter a Title — this is the headline parents and students see first.
- Write your Message. Use the editor toolbar to format text and insert images.
- Optionally pick Attachments — files from your files library that readers can download.
- Check Post at. It starts at the current time, so the announcement posts right away. Pick a later time to schedule it (see below).
- Under Post in these classes, select every class that should get the announcement.
- Click Post announcement (admins click Create).
Note: Posting in several classes creates a separate copy of the announcement in each class, so you can edit or delete them independently afterward.
Post now, schedule, or save a draft
The Post at field controls visibility. Times are in your school's time zone.
- The current time or earlier: it's posted and visible right away.
- A future time: it's scheduled and appears automatically at that time (marked with a "scheduled" badge until then).
- Empty: the announcement is a draft. Parents and students can't see it. Teachers must pick a time when they create an announcement, so drafts come from unpublishing one. Admins can also clear Post at when creating to save a draft.
The Announcements list has All, Draft, Scheduled, and Published tabs so you can find announcements in each state. To publish or unpublish several at once, check the boxes next to them, open Bulk actions, and choose Publish selected or Unpublish selected.
Preview, edit, or delete an announcement
- Go to Communication → Announcements (or the class's Announcements tab).
- Open the actions menu on the announcement's row.
- Choose Preview to see it as readers will, Edit to change it, or Delete to remove it.
On the edit page, click Save changes when you're done. If you started from a class's Announcements tab, you return there afterward.
Deleting an announcement takes it off the class page for families and students. Emails that were already sent stay in their inboxes.
